Description

Athavaninche Amrut chronicles a very interesting time period within the 20th century. This book is a compilation of Mr Appa Sathe’s life experiences and his journey from being born in a small village of Maharashtra to fulfilling his dream of becoming the ‘Head of R. S. S’. It was published on the 100th anniversary of Mr Appa Sathe, by his daughter, Ms Sumitra Mahajan, who is the current speaker of Lok Sabha.

Mr Sathe’s life wasn’t a bed of roses yet he successfully conquered all the difficulties and emerged as an exceptional lawyer from the Chiplun region of Maharashtra. He was equally interested in varied social activities. His life took a great turn in the year 1938 when Dr Hedgewar offered him an opportunity to be at the helm of R. S. S. Working at this position gave him great joy and thus he ensured that every member of his family was able to contribute in some way or the other to the workings of R. S. S. During his time in R. S. S. , he argued that people must look closely at the ideology of R. S. S and not deem it as a regressive one. He urged people to perceive R. S. S’ working methodology as reformative.

Although a man belonging to an all but bygone era, his perception of the society was quite ahead of its time. The art of conveying ideas to people was one one of his well-known qualities. In one of his speeches, he spoke on the lines of ‘Hinduism is the true Nationalism’ which is a prominent belief of R. S. S. Apart from his political interests, he was also an avid patron of drama and even acted in a few plays. This book tries to depict the kind of lifestyle prevalent in the 19th century and attempts to resolve the misconception, if any, about the philosophy of R. S. S.
